About

How it started

Art Binder, founder of THRILL OF THE HUNT, wanted to be able to shoot 3D indoors. Such opportunities at local archery shops are typically limited to the space available, and the need to use these archery ranges for a wide variety of applications from setting up and tuning bows, to paper bulls eye open shooting and tournaments.

The solution for Art was right on his 10-acre horse farm, inside a 10,000-square-foot horse training arena previously used to support his “other life” as a nationally competitive cutting horse trainer.

By regrading the floor of the arena to provide a variety of elevations, deploying 30 top-quality 3D animal targets, and building a 10-foot high shooting platform to compliment the five ground shooting points, Art has created a truly unique environment in which anyone can enjoy the thrill of the hunt.

ASA scoring

3D animal targets typically have scoring rings embossed on their surface, in either the IBO or ASA configuration. Most 3D animal targets at THRILL OF THE HUNT carry the ASA scoring rings.

The ASA uses a scoring system of 14, 12, 10, 8, 5 or 0 points per arrow. Scoring is based on zero points for a miss, 5 points earned for a hit anywhere in the body, 8 points for the largest scoring ring in the center of the animal, 10 points for the 4 to 5 inch center circle inside the 8-ring, and 12 points for the smaller ring offset to the bottom or top of the 10-ring. Another circle housed in the upper rear of the 8-ring is a 14-point ring.

Of course, you may shoot at THRILL OF THE HUNT for fun, without scoring, or you and your group can employ any scoring rules you choose.

What’s new?

At THRILL OF THE HUNT, we never stop innovating. Between what we learn from our customers and what we discover as we shoot the course ourselves, changes are constant. For example, since we opened on October 1, 2010, we added a broadhead tuning lane with a block target for our hunters (our animal targets may be shot ONLY with field/target points). We also added an easily accessible tree stand platform.

If after you shoot you make a suggestion which is subsequently implemented, your next round at THRILL OF THE HUNT is on us. Of course, only the first person making that suggestion will win.

What do I need to know?

A minimum of 6 arrows in your quiver is essential for all tournaments. Better to have a few extras, in case you break an arrow. An arrow puller is suggested, as is arrow lubricant for easier removal.

Dress for the season. While the THRILL OF THE HUNT environment protects you from wind, rain, darkness and blazing sun, it will be cold in winter and warm in summer.

Every person entering THRILL OF THE HUNT, for the first time, is required to sign a Liability Waiver and Safety Rules form, which will remain on file for future visits.

Persons 18 years or older can sign their own forms. Persons under 18 must have their forms signed ONLY by a parent or LEGAL guardian. These forms can be downloaded as PDF files at www.indoor3D.com/forms and printed, so that parents can sign and provide them to other family members or friends bringing minors to THRILL OF THE HUNT.
